Club Members came together last Saturday morning at the Ship to carry out much anticipated piste resurfacing. Given it was first laid-down almost thirty years ago it’s done pretty well but time, weather and falling leaves had taken their toll and parts of the piste were quite soft and muddy, such that we’d stopped using about a third of the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We started by removing any remaining vegetation, the mud that had formed in one corner and the top surface of a large central section which had become soft and tended to get waterlogged in wet weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the preparation was complete we applied a layer of grit across most of the surface and raked it smooth. After just over two hours work from a good team we had a new piste surface. Very pleased with the results of our labour, we gathered in the pub for a celebratory drink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was bit concerned that the new piste might take some time to settle down but I needn’t have worried. The next day members turned up for Sunday practice and we were all pleasantly surprised by how well it played, providing a greater range of terrain conditions than previously and that we could use the entire piste surface again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ll probably still have a few puddles in very wet conditions but we have a cunning plan to deal with that too! If playing Petanque at one of the most scenic boules pistes in the county, in the grounds of a superb pub appeals then do get in touch here.
