Ship Inn on BBC News

The Ship In Owslebury were featured on the BBC’s South today after a young capybara which had escaped from nearby Marwell Zoo was spotted outside the pub on Wednesday evening. Club members Leo and Sheila were about to start much-needed maintenance of the terrain on Friday morning and noticed lots of activity at what is usually a quiet time for the pub. They met members of the Marwell Zoo team who were searching for the capybara, named “Samba” and were approached by the BBC’s Briony Leyland for an interview. Neither Leo and Sheila had seen the lost rodent but it had been the talk of the pub the previous evening when pub regulars told them about the sighting on Wednesday evening during a break in the pub’s weekly quiz. The capybara sighting and the subsequent news interest has caused quite a stir in the village! The BBC report can be viewed here.
